Topic outline

Advanced Moodle course

We will cover a number of different areas in this course

1

Forums

Different types, how to use them, try out in the VETSA sandpit, let me know if you have used forums before?

News forums are not able to be replied to, they are only for news items.

Hidden staff forums at the start of each course are great for organising the course, as well as discussing how students are going and who needs to be helped along.

Pretty cool, word of the day, but you need to have this set up at the admin level as well.

Groups and Groupings

A way of organising group activities as well as running different groups of students through the same course, but with different assignments/forums etc

You need to have the "groups" option turned on for your moodle site, then make sure it is selecte4d within your course.

  1. Make Groups
  2. Assign users to those groups (teachers as well)
  3. Assign groups to activities
  4. Then we also have groupings within Groups.
It gets rather complicated, but very powerful.

Lessons

A simple (well not really) way of branching within Moodle.

A great way of presenting information within Moodle, but it can become complex and I would suggest "Story Boarding" the pathing before you start.
